iPad in India

iPad has finally been unveiled amid loads of speculation. I am going to write about the iPad in India. Gaunt, thin but still very much a force to reckon with, Steve Jobs made a wonderful presentation to the world media about this latest device by Apple. The pros and cons of iPad notwithstanding, it is still a device by Apple and that in itself is enough to make it an aspirational product. This is one reason why I believe that the iPad will find takers in India. Priced at a relatively cheap $499 base price, the iPad is soon going to be the baby of many a CEO. It is a good product for any one who has a needs to read a lot. It cannot replace the computer or even the laptop, but it does herald the beginning of a new era in HCI - Human Computer Interaction. Apple brought Windows to the world and now it seems to have done it again. This time around though, there is no Bill Gates to steal Steve Jobs' thunder. The iPad in India will find takers because it is an aspirational product and it will be positioned in that way too unlike in the US where the prices of the iPad are low enough to attract the masses. The price of iPad in India is stll not decided but it from previous experiences, I will like to believe that the iPad will be anywhere around 40-50k INR. |
